- Please call the appropriate number below immediately and:
- Do not get in the water
- Do not attempt to remove, grab or cut any entangling line
- Stay back 50 to 100 yards (one football field)
- – There is a risk of your boat becoming entangled in the entangling gear
- – The whale can become scared of boats before responders arrive, making a disentanglement more difficult
- Take photos and video (lots!)
- – Try to photograph as much of the whale and entangling gear as you can
- Stay with the whale until responders or USCG or a state agency or whale watcher takes over for you!
- – There is little chance of re-locating a whale that has been lost
