US West Coast wide identification and sampling of humpback whales

US West Coast wide identification and sampling of humpback whales using small boats operated in collaboration with NOAA ship survey

Cascadia Research will be conducting small-boat surveys covering the entire US West Coast from July to September 2018 in association with NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center’s California Current Ecosystem Survey (CCES).

The primary objective of CCES is to understand the abundance and distribution of dolphins and whales found off the US West Coast. Cascadia’s role is to gather skin and blubber biopsy samples as well as photo-identification data from small research vessels.
