Oceanic mantas (Manta birostris), referred to as hāhālua in Hawaiian and also as giant manta ray or giant oceanic manta ray, are listed as endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. We see this species rarely in our work, but when we do, we try to obtain identification photos, which we provide to manta researchers.
